It seems everywhere I’ve lived over the years I have some sort of water issue. Whether it be from a well, water delivered to a cistern in a small town rental, or at my out of the way country setting, I have had to deal with water issues.
Over the past several years, my way around dealing with water softeners and such is to have a water cooler in the house; always tasting fresh, cold…and safe to drink. You would think if you have a water bill every month, the water would at least taste good enough to drink! Oh well, such is life. I just might have to break down and get that water-filtering system some day.
In the meantime, I look for ways to combat those hard water stains that show up under the faucets and around the drains. I find the most noticeable spot for hard water stains is the toilet rim; the place where water sits to fester. Allowing water to sit too long in this same position allows that nasty black resin to accumulate. If you have a bathroom that only gets used on occasion, you probably have seen a black rim or two.
Toilet Bombs…that’s my fix!
Recipe for Toilet Bombs
1 Cup Baking Soda 1/4 Cup Citric Acid 1 Tsp. Distilled Water 1/2 Tsp. White Vinegar 30 drops of Lavender, Lemon, and Peppermint
First mix Baking Soda and Citric Acid together.
Add your essential oils. Mix again.
Next slowly add Vinegar and Water. If you add too quickly, the mixture will become active and start to fizz. A little fizz is okay, but a lot is not!
Next, scoop your bombs into molds, or use a teaspoon to roll into a ball and onto a cookie sheet. Pick up any loose pieces and pack tightly into the molds you create. You have to rework the mold a few times; packing or squeezing the mixture each time before it’s ready for drying.
Allow the molds to dry for six hours or overnight. Place dried pieces into a container for storage.
Plop one or two bombs into your toilet and watch the fizzing begin.
You get the power of the fizzies from the citric acid and baking soda, along with the freshness and antibacterial, germ killing, and unwanted bacteria or pathogens properties from the essential oils! This powerhouse of three essential oils is the same solution used to support our symptoms that come with seasonal and environmental threats like a runny nose, cough, or night sweats. Turns out, what’s good for us is also good for our toilets!
What I like about these little guys is that they fizz. That tells me there is work being done! I give the bombs time to hang out in the water and then flush as usual.
I am here and ready to help anyone who wants to know more.
I’m an educator of oils and can help you throughout the process if you’re interested in finding out more. I don’t just sell you oils and leave you on your own. I share, tag, send, and talk oils.
Thanks for your time,
