When thinking about the products you put on your skin, how do you smell? Whether you’re using cologne, moisturizer, or bug spray, you obviously want a smell that you enjoy.
Let’s talk about bug repellent. There are the products that include toxic chemicals and those that are all-natural. Personally, I like the idea of putting something on my skin that is good for me, too. If the product is going to sink into my skin, why would I want it to contain harmful chemicals?!?
The great advantage about choosing essential oils for what ails you is how you can incorporate a particular oil that you enjoy in lieu of one that doesn’t suit your smeller.
For instance, doTERRA offers TerraShield as a bug spray. While I love the scent of this oil, some may not. I can purchase their ready-made TerraShield or make my own with just a few drops of the essential oil in a spray bottle. I choose to make my own because it goes much further; allowing me to share more readily with my family and friends.
Other essential oil options for bug spray depend on which bugs you are trying to repel. For instance, if you want to repel mosquitoes try citronella, peppermint, lemon, eucalyptus, basil, clove thyme, lemongrass, geranium and lavender. For ticks, try rose, geranium, juniper, grapefruit, oregano, or thyme. If you want to make a spray or lotion that does both, add a few essential oils for each pesky pest and make your own blend.
Here is one website, Organic Aromas, that offers a few options for bug repellent recipes. If you don’t appreciate any of these blend scents, a simple search on the internet will offer even more options for you.
Scent is personal. What works for me may not work for you. What smells yummy on me, may not smell so great on you. The key is to find what repels the pests, is all-natural without toxic chemicals (like doTERRA), and one that offers the scent you want to bring to others.
I am here and ready to help anyone who wants to know more.
I’m an educator of oils and can help you throughout the process if you’re interested in finding out more. I don’t just sell you oils and leave you on your own. I share, tag, send, and talk oils.
Thanks for your time,
